A POPULAR path that was recently saved from closure gets the Grotspots treatment this week.

The footpath between Moss Lane and Wellington Road, Timperley, is in urgent need of a clean-up, a reader told the Grotspots campaign.

It is strewn with a smashed TV, shattered glass, and there is litter on the path and in the grounds of Wellington Road High School, which the path runs along.

A reader called for action to improve the 'dreadful state of the path' - and the council has promised to attend to it.

Geoff Marsh, the council's head of environmental services, says: "There is joint responsibility between the council and the school for this path.

"We will ensure it is cleaned up in the near future."

The path was recently saved from closure after more than 100 residents wrote to object to the plan. The school had wanted to landscape the path and take it inside school grounds. It claimed the closure would ensure the safety of pupils as there had been incidents of vandals and criminals using the path.

But the plan was unanimously thrown out by planning chiefs.

Litter problems can be reported to the council on 912 3604. People can also contact Trafford Direct 2000 on 912 2000, which provides information and help on a range of council services.
