A PRIMARY school in Stretford has been praised for its high standards in national tests following its recent OFSTED inspection.

The report about St Teresa's RC Primary said it has been "very effective in achieving high standards in the national tests" and provides a "friendly place where the pupils feel part of a family".

The National Curriculum results, achieved by 11 year-olds last year, are in the top 5% for English and "well above average" for maths and science.

The 224 pupils, aged between three and 11, have been praised for their "very good" attitudes and behaviour, both in and out of the classroom. They are keen to learn and act sensibly, showing good discipline.

The report said: "Pupils get on extremely well together and show care and concern for one another."

The provision for children with special educational needs was good and the school provides a good personal care for pupils.

The report said: "The head teacher provides strong leadership and has a good working partnership with the deputy head teacher.

"The head teacher and staff place high value on good relationships between school and the community. As a result, the school benefits from a high level of support from parents and parishioners."

Standards in art and design, design and technology and geography are targets for improvement and children's progress in the reception year also need to be addressed.
