URGENT work is needed to save part of Congleton's history, borough conservation officer Michael Scammell has warned.
The Bath House at Colehill Bank is a listed structure in the former garden of Bradshaw House.
The Bath House and a classical garden seat on the same land are in a dilapidated condition, and at risk of being lost forever.
The Bath House and adjacent land are owned by the borough council, which has agreed in principle their sale to Congleton Building Preservation Trust.
The trust wants to use it for an artist's studio and display and education purposes, and is hoping for money from the lottery and a regeneration scheme for Lawton Street and High Street.
In the meantime the Bath House remains in a "perilous" condition, and emergency repairs will cost £8,000.
The trust is seeking grant aid for the repairs, and Mr Scammell is recommending a 40 per cent grant.
Normally the maximum grant would be £1,500, but Mr Scammell said the Bath House was a very special case.
