Natural Born Killers caused a stink as one of the most controversial and critically acclaimed films of the 90s when it was released but the director's cut, now available on dvd with special bonus features, involves more shocks, more blood and more nerve.
This is a disturbing tale of a brutal killing spree across America carried out by Mickey (Woody Harrelson of Cheers fame) and his girlfriend Mallory (Juliette Lewis).
There is no reasoning behind the perverse murders, which seem to occur for murder's sake.
But all considered it is strangely gripping, probably to note how far the director would dare to go.
The viewer gets the answer when Mickey and Mallory's prison chief loses his blood-splattered head to a criminal's stake that is then displayed triumphantly.
There's rapid-fire imagery to go with the rapid-fire bullets and deaths and remember, you have been warned! Mike Parsons
