IT'S GOOD news for all sports fans that Warrington Wolves has finally got the green light for a new stadium.

But there are some issues that should have been sorted out before approval was given.

The total number of parking spaces provided for both the stadium and the Tesco store will be 994 (with space for 21 coaches). The Tesco Extra store will require 794 of these spaces in order to comply with Warrington Borough Council's Unitary Development Plan standards.

The remaining 200 car parking spaces will be totally inadequate for Warrington supporters - never mind visiting fans (5,000 supporters from Wigan or St Helens in. Perhaps Tesco will arrange to close its store on match days?

The streets around the stadium/Tesco complex are more likely to be saturated with frustrated shoppers and spectators.

According to Rugby League Headquarters the pitch should be 68 metres wide with an eight metre in-goal area.

The new stadium shows a pitch 64 metres wide with a seven metre in-goal area.

The smaller playing area may not appear to be important, but it could mean that the new stadium will NOT be able to stage representative or international matches.

The tight playing area also prevents senior Rugby Union games being played at the new stadium. Surely a potential under-use of the stadium .

The hype and euphoria for a new stadium AT ANY COST has blinded protagonists to any negative implications.

How the stadium and super store obtained permission with inadequate car parking arrangements and a sub-standard playing area beggars belief!
