WINSFORD schools produced a mixed set of results in this year's primary league tables.

St Chad's Primary School had an excellent set of results, with an across the board increase in English, maths and science.

The school obtained 86 per cent in English, 94 per cent in maths and 97 per cent in science, results that place it firmly among the better-performing schools in Cheshire.

Over St John's Primary experienced success in English and science, with English improving by two per cent from last year for a 85 per cent score, and science going up to an excellent 90 per cent with another two percent increase.

The performance tables are based on key stage two tests in English, science and maths taken by all Year Six pupils aged 10 to 11, with the expected level of achievement being National Curriculum level four.

Cheshire County Council commended the hard work of all pupils, parents and teachers across the county.

Education executive member Clr David Rowlands said: "Percentages for the three subjects equal last year's excellent standards.

"But it is particularly pleasing to see that the average performance has improved - a tremendous compliment to the dedication of teachers, parents and pupils themselves.

"These consistently high results also speak volumes for an education authority that receives the third lowest grant of any English Shire."
