YOUNGSTERS in Georgia are to benefit - after Davenham Junior Football Club's successful appeal for football kits.

More than 560 items have been collected and will be delivered to Samaritan's Purse Operation Christmas Child in Wrexham before Christmas.

The kits include 143 shirts, 122 shorts, 113 pairs of socks, three goalkeeper shirts and other miscellaneous items.

Samaritan's Purse Operation Christmas Child operates a scheme in Georgia that provides the necessary equipment to allow football for all.

It is creating local assistance for the long term, training aid workers by professional coaches of a Premier League team and ensuring the children are given the correct football education.

The charity make regular shipments of donated kit and boots to assist the local staff in growing the scheme in the country and aim to take the concept to other needy cases in the former soviet states.

Mike Parker from Davenham Football Club said: "We have achieved a wonderful result from the kind donations by the children, parents and managers.

"The items will be passed to children in need in The Crimea which will assist the charity in providing a chance for those who have little, to share in something we can take for granted.

"A big thanks on behalf of Davenham Junior Football Club for the donated kit and boots that have been donated to our appeal."

As a result of Davenham's success, other teams in the area are considering starting similar collections of excess kit.
