LAWS aimed at improving the security of Europe's airports have been welcomed by a Warrington MEP who helped to create them.
Jacqueline Foster MEP was involved in the discussions between the European Parliament and Council to reach an agreement on financing tighter security measures at airports.
The newly agreed laws mean that there will be unannounced security inspections at all airports by July 1, 2004 and all staff and items will now be screened as well.
Mrs Foster said the agreement was a well-balanced response to the security risks in civil aviation after the events of September 11.
