A WARRINGTON Euro MP has condemned the use of irradiation in food - after plans were revealed to extend the number of groceries treated this way.

Liberal Democrat MEP Chris Davies, a member of the European Parliament's health and consumer affairs committee, has given his support to more research into the health impact of this treatment, and the risks to food workers.

He has reacted angrily to plans from the European Commission to add foods such as egg white, dried fruit and peeled shrimps to the list of foods that may receive ionising radiation.
