THE sales tactics of some security firms operating in Warrington are "extremely concerning" according to trading standards officers.
Firms selling panic systems, house alarm systems and intercoms are often targeting frail older people.
According to the salespeople, the panic systems provide the householder with the ability to raise the alarm in the event of an accident at home or sudden illness in circumstances where they would otherwise be unable to call for help.
However, trading standards officers say that some salespeople are falsely claiming that they are operating on behalf of the borough council, that funding is available from the council to pay for the systems, and that they are linked to the police.
If you have concerns, call either trading standards on 442678 or Age Concern on 244645.
