WORKERS at Transco are on a mission to keep traffic flowing in Winwick when work gets under way on mains replacement.

The maintenance work has been scheduled to coincide with the opening of junction eight of the M62 and minimise disruption to motorists.

The gas pipeline company will be working on replacing 200 metres of iron pipes with plastic ones on Mill Lane in Winwick at its junction with the A49.

Work will start next Monday and staff will be working round the clock to finish the £80,000 project before Christmas.

Closures will affect the inside lane of the A49 out of Warrington for the first three to four days, followed by the outside lane until Christmas Eve.

Jon Butterworth, Transco network director, said: "We apologise for the inconvenience to motorists in the run-up to Christmas but this is essential work."
