A WINWICK filmmaker is starry eyed at the thought of his next illuminating project.

Giles Perkins is getting into the festive spirit and on the lookout for the biggest and best Christmas displays for a special festive documentary.

The 35-year-old public transport planner has had some of his documentaries screened at festivals in London, Leeds and Manchester and he came up with his latest idea last Christmas.

Giles, who has been making short films and documentaries for four years, said: "With people making bigger and better displays each year, I realised that this annual obsession was the perfect subject for a short film.

"Last year there seemed to be a real change in people's festive light displays.

"But you can only do this kind of project for three weeks of the year so I've been sitting on the idea for 12 months."

Giles's film 'Havana in 90' was chosen to appear at last summer's Splice This event in Toronto in Canada and he has also won the best monthly short film on British Telecom's internet website 'getoutthere'.

Giles's yuletide mission is to find the best outdoor decorations including lights, giant Santas and reindeer and every house that makes the final cut - and is chosen to star in the documentary - will receive a copy of the finished film.

Giles added: "Filmmaking is a serious hobby and this project will take around two months to complete as I will be doing all the filming, directing and editing myself.

"I want to capture the fun and undeniable pride surrounding these electrified works of art."
