FINISHING touches were made to the Day Unit Christmas tree at St Rocco's Hospice last week with staff from B & Q on Milner Street.

Main sponsors of the Light up a Life service, B & Q, donated Christmas trees for the in-patient, day unit and reception area, as well as more than a thousand outdoor lights for the 30ft tree which stands in the hospice grounds.

The community was invited to the service to give thanks for the lives of loved ones and show support for the wonderful work of St Rocco's.

Celia Jordan, chairman of the trustees, said: "This event brings the community together in such a wonderful way. Remembering a loved one at Christmas can be difficult. Attending the service, singing Christmas carols, saying prayers and watching the tree illuminate is truly an amazing experience and one which everyone enjoys."

More than 500 people attended the evening service, where a thousand lights were sponsored in memory of loved ones. The event was a memorable occasion and helped raise more than £20,000 for the hospice.

St Rocco's staff thanked the people of Warrington for their continued support and wished them a merry Christmas and a happy New Year.
