PLANS to demolish the historic Oughtrington Methodist Church in Sandy Lane look set to cause a furore in Lymm.
Council planners have received an application to demolish the now-closed church and build three homes in its place.
The loss of the church, which would have celebrated its 80th birthday this year, came as another blow to the community which is facing the loss of its post office.
Clr Sheila Woodyatt said: "It would be nice if we could keep the site as a lovely open area where folk could gather but if there needs to be a fight to keep the developers away then I am never afraid of that.
"This was a community building that has gone and it has been serving the community for 80 years and it is sad that we are losing these community facilities."
The final service at the church took place in September after Methodist officials said the church has too small a congregation.
