BIG-HEARTED Widnes market traders have donated £1,000 to Halton Haven Hospice.

It's the second time this year stallholders have given the cancer care centre a grand raised from a fun day.

This time, they supported a yellow day with a raffle and various other fundraising activities.

Jane Pye, deputy markets manager, said: "The market is very much part of the community.

"We like to give something back. The market traders have really pulled the stops out to support the hospice."

Competition

Paul and Cath Antrobus of Satellite Services sponsored a competition to give away a Sky TV system and a year's free subscription. Mrs O'Donoghue won the prize.

Traders who belong to a Tuesday art group plan to stage a water colour exhibition at the Queens Hall in October.

They will be donating a percentage of their sales to Halton Haven and organising a special charity viewing night.

They plan to hold another yellow day early in December. Widnes Market has around 85 traders indoors and 50 outdoors.
