WINNINGTON Park pulled off a shock win at the weekend by knocking premier league side Alderley Edge out of the Fred Graham Trophy.

A brilliant bowling display saw only one Alderley Edge batsman break into double figures, as Park became the only non-premier division team to remain in the knockout competition.

Alderley Edge elected to bowl first and fielded a strong side, which included young Lancashire batsman Mark Currie and ex-Lancashire captain Steve O'Shaughnessy.

However, a determined young Park raced to 36 before losing their first wicket in the eighth over.

Cup opener Craig Little was well supported by Tom Allan until Allan was stumped for 21 with the score on 92 off 21 overs.

David Leech soon followed and Little was caught sweeping for 60.

Newell and Sinclair tried to keep the runs flowing until Newell was caught for 13 with the score on 143 off 36 overs.

Skipper Mike Johns fought to make sure Park used all 45 overs, but Sinclair was soon out and O'Shaughnessy went on to take three wickets in five balls.

Park finished on 179 all out off 43.5 overs and needed a strong bowling performance to book their place in the semi-finals.

And a fantastic opening from Paul Allen and James Cowell put Park in a strong position.

Cowell bowled 1-12 off nine overs and Allen took 1-16 off seven overs.

Alderley Edge soon got into troubled waters as the wickets continued to fall.

Allen took Mark Currie, Day was then run out in a mix up with Crissall and Cowell's tight line and unplayable length soon got the better of Crissall, who was caught by Johns.

Elliott soon followed for nine, Manton was run out for one and Shaughnessy was bowled for a duck.

The only Alderley Edge batsman to break into double figures was Walker, who witnessed both Chan and Sharp being stumped by Dave Hine.

Warnes was then caught for a duck and Park's demolition job was soon over.

Allan returned to wrap up the game when Walker hit out at his first ball and Sinclair took the catch at mid-off.

The premier league club was dismissed for just 69 and Walker finished on 23.

Hayes took 3-21, Allen took 2-16 and the other three bowlers took a wicket each.

Mike Johns commented: "This is an excellent lift for us and I think we've answered a lot of questions here today.

"Every aspect of our game was excellent and the atmosphere was unbelievable."

Park will now play hosts to local rivals Oulton Park in the semi-final.
