A POLICE crackdown on outstanding arrest warrants that has been piloted in the Vale Royal division has been garnering results.

Operation Nemesis has seen a number of outstanding warrants finally carried out.

At the start of the operation, Congleton and Vale Royal police division had a total of 103 outstanding warrants, of which 62 were out of force, nine that were outside the division but still within Cheshire and 32 from within the division.

So far, six outstanding warrants have been executed - five within division and one outside of division but still within Cheshire.

Initiative

The initiative has involved specially trained teams of officers which have been dispatched across the division to track down individuals who have longstanding warrants issued against them.

A spokesman for Cheshire police said: "If you're purposefully avoiding the justice system the message is you can't run forever. But everyone's getting a last chance to do the right thing.

"If you hand yourself into your nearest police station you can avoid the embarrassment of a very public knock on your door. And once you've made the initial appearance, that's the first step towards wiping the slate clean."

Cheshire Police will be naming and shaming anyone who has had a warrant issued against them in the past three months and failed to turn themselves in.

A brief summary of their details will appear on the constabulary's website and will only be removed as and when steps are taken by the individuals to notify police of their whereabouts.

Any member of the public who thinks they have information which could help the police with these enquiries can contact the confidential Crimestoppers hotline on 0800 555 111.
