NORTHWICH shoppers have mixed views about the town's smelly drains. Some think they smell appalling, others think they smell okay, as long as there is a breeze to blow away any whiff, while others think there is no smell at all.

The Guardian asked Northwich shoppers if they thought the town's drains smell.

Joan Hitchen, aged 56 of Winsford said: "Northwich smells of poo - it's terrible. Every time we come we say that. It puts you off going shopping here and is worse in the summer."

Stephen Clifton, aged 47, of Lostock Gralam said: "I've not been in the bit that smells yet today. Usually it smells at the at the bottom of High Street, even in winter. It's breezy today and the breeze takes the smell away, so it probably won't be too bad."

Liam Cheiscke, aged 16 of Leftwich, said: "No, I don't reckon it smells that much, only when it's really hot."

Alan Hewitt, aged 64, and his wife Mo Hewitt, aged 65, of Moulton said: "We've not known it to smell but it could do with cleaning up a bit"

Rachel Schulze, aged 36, of Wincham said: "I notice the smell often, especially at the bottom of the high street. It pretty much always smells there."
