WIDNES Vikings have secured the signature of Daniel Frame for two more years and coach Neil Kelly could be next.

Kelly has already had 'preliminary discussions' with Widnes chairman Tony Chambers regarding a new deal, although his present contract still has a year to run.

Kelly is known to be keen to extend his stay at Halton Stadium but his own personal terms are unlikely to be the sole item on the agenda.

The ambitious Yorkshireman has stated publicly he believes the Vikings have the potential to force their way into the game's elite and he may seek reassurances that the Vikings board share his goal.

The re-signing of Frame will certainly help.

The dynamic loose-forward's current deal was due to run out at the end of the season and he was known to be a target for several other clubs with Warrington Wolves and Bradford Bulls being mentioned in some quarters.

Delighted

Kelly, whose association with Frame goes back to their Dewsbury days, was delighted to get his man.

He said: "Daniel's been one of our most consistent performers and he's an 80 minute player.

"Negotiations became a little bit tight because of the interest shown by other clubs but we think the way it's panned out is the best thing for Daniel and us."

Frame said: "I never wanted to leave the club for one moment. It is fair to say that I very nearly signed for Huddersfield, but Widnes came in with a very good offer and I'm really pleased to re-sign for the club. Widnes is a club going places and I want to be a part of that."

Meanwhile, Kelly believes several individual errors may have cost the Vikings a point after their 30-30 draw at Huddersfield on Sunday.

He added: "There were a few mistakes by individuals who don't normally make them and sometimes you've just got to put it behind you. I was pleased with our response after we'd given them a start and with a bit more composure we could have taken the both points."

Both Shane Millard and Phil Cantillon sustained eye injuries but should be fit for this Sunday's clash with Wakefield Trinity Wildcats.
