More needed in Smith Trophy

ENTRIES are still being taken for bowls' John Smith Trophy to be held at the Red Lion in Stockton Heath.

Entrance fee is £7 and limited to 64 bowlers. Prize money is subject to entries and the competition is open to Warrington bowlers only.

Dates of play are first and second rounds, September 2, 3, 4 and 6; third round, September 11; finals night, September 14, which has changed due to a clash with the Alford Hall competition.

All entries with fees and two dates should go to Dave Griffiths, 3 Ash Lane, Appleton, Warrington WA4 3DD. Cheques should be made payable to Red Lion Bowling Club.

Challenge change

WARRINGTON Sunday Night Parks' Mixed Pairs Bowls League's Challenge Cup semi-finals date has been changed to September 7 because of Bank Holiday weekend. Venues to be advised to the teams by telephone.

Entries are still being taken for the league's Multicolour competition to be played on Sunday at Victoria Park, 10.30am start 11am scratch.

Trophy misses

TWO of Warrington's top bowlers missed out on trophy success over the weekend.

Karen Johnstone was pipped 21-17 by Lancaster's A. Roberts in the Thurston's Women's Open at Chadmoor.

John Taylor lost by the same score in the Dennis Mercer Trophy final at Houldsworth. Taylor's hopes were dashed by A. White, of Worsley.

Woolston on top

WARRINGTON Dominoes League's top two teams clashed this week.

Woolston leaped over Red Lion SH to take top spot in Division One thanks to a 6-4 away win.

Con Keys are joint second after their 6-4 defeat of Rylands C.

Borough beat Cons A 10-0 and Wilkies squashed Rose 8-2.

In Division Two, Bank Quay A lost 8-2 to Cons B, Bulls Head were squeezed out by Rylands A 6-4 and Sloop were edged 6-4 by Kings Head. Kings Club and Monk Sports drew.

President's Main

THE closing date for Warrington Women's Evening Bowls League's President's Main entries is Sunday.

The competition will be played on August 31.

New York match

BIRCHWOOD under 17s soccer side will lock horns with a team from Boston, New York, on Monday.

The game, which is part of a school exchange programme, will be held at Birchwood High School and will kick-off at 5.30pm. Spectators are invited to attend.

Open meeting

WARRINGTON Athletics Club will stage an open track and field meeting at their Victoria Park home on Saturday from noon.

Dominoes winners

SUZIE Woods and her partner Shelia Pound secured Romsdale Cup glory at the Three Pigeons.

The dominoes pairs competition has been contested by 10 teams over a 12-month period.
