South London Storm 14

WARRINGTON Woolston Rovers secured third place in National League Three with another outstanding performance at a sweltering Wilderspool.

It leaves Warrington playing sixth-placed Huddersfield Underbank Rangers in the National League Three play-offs at Wilderspool on Saturday, kick-off 2.30pm.

Warrington opened the scoring against Storm in the eighth minute when Andy James used his size to power over from close range.

Rovers increased their lead when a good run by man of the match prop forward Dave Powlesland paved the way for Liam McCarthy to put Mark Wallington over for a try. Chris Mellor converted.

McCarthy found centre Jon Cole with a good ball and he sauntered over unopposed. Mellor added the conversion.

Five minutes before the break Storm registered their first points with a try.

Rovers regained the ball straight from the kick-off and James waltzed over for his second try.

On the stroke of half-time Iain Fowler intercepted a London pass and raced 20 metres to score. Mellor's goal gave Warrington a commanding 28-4 interval advantage.

The onslaught continued when slick passing the width of the field created space for Jon Cole to go over. Mellor duly added the extras.

Kris Buckley, who scored the last Rovers try, and McCarthy combined to send Karl Taylor through a gap to score. Mellor added the goal.
