Some 25 caravans, cars and transit vans set up camp on grass verges behind superstores on Europa Boulevard last week and more travellers converged on land further down Cromwell Avenue near to Sankey Valley Park on Tuesday night.

Around a dozen vehicles are camped at the side of Lingley Green Avenue in Great Sankey.

And businesses have also complained about children aged between eight and 12 playing and riding bikes on car parks on Gemini Retail Park.

Westbrook councillor David Earl said: "Residents are also extremely concerned about the amount of noise caused by generators, the excessive litter and sometimes the rubble left when the group moves on not to mention the cost of getting court orders and clearing up afterwards."

English Partnerships applied for a court order on Monday and the group was expected to leave the Callands site yesterday afternoon, Wednesday, while Warrington Borough Council called for an eviction order yesterday morning.

Two weeks ago, around 20 vehicles were also on land off Cromwell Avenue, near the red footbridge, for 10 days before being moved on by Warrington Borough Council.

And over the past two months, travellers have set up camp on the Omega site near the M62, land near Great Sankey High School and the playing fields in Burtonwood village.
