A GROUP of Thelwall footballers proved that hard work does pay off when the boys went to watch the Community Shield in Cardiff on Sunday.
Youngsters from the Beechfield under 11s earned the right to see the Arsenal versus Manchester United encounter after cleaning up the area around Thelwall Parish Hall. Their community work was so outstanding that McDonalds rewarded them with a trip to the big game.
Manager of the side Paul Dawson said the lads had enjoyed a superb day. "It was the first time a lot of them had been to such a match. We were in the Arsenal end, but it was still really good and all the lads were really excited," he said.
"A lot of them are United fans but Michael Dawson, the captain, wore his Everton shirt, so he got a little bit of stick."
