THE first Lymm Rushbearing to be held on a Sunday since the event's revival in the 1970s proved so successful that it will be carried on in future years.
Organiser of the traditional procession through the village, Christopher Limb, said the change worked very well. He said it would be continued in the future after declining numbers during recent years when it was held on Monday evenings.
He added: "There was a great atmosphere in the village and in the procession and there were greater numbers than last year.
"We will probably stay with the Sunday now as everyone seemed to enjoy themselves on the day.
"It wasn't a great start to the day with the weather, but by the time we started at 4pm it was fine."
Joining the procession, led by town crier Peter Powell, was Deputy Mayor Clr Jan Davidson, chairman of Lymm Parish Council Clr Sheila Woodyatt, members of Lymm WI and Brownies from the village.
The event also included the Thelwall Morris Men and saw the procession leave the village centre and make its way up to St Mary's Church.
After a short service, it was back down to the village hall on Pepper Street for refreshments and the judging of the garlands.
