moves forward

THE final piece in the puzzle now appears to be complete for a prospective major redevelopment in the centre of Latchford village.

Only owners of the Homesaver store had resisted attempts to pull down shops, flats and lock-up garages in Maybrook Place and build a new precinct.

But Homesaver has apparently followed the likes of Shawcross Paints and the Petra takeaway and left the Maybrook Place parade.

Shawcross moved to a renovated outlet at the corner of Kingsway South and the A50 and Petra is now based further along Knutsford Road.

As reported in the Guardian in April, the prospective shopping arcade, currently on show at the ex-Homesaver premises, show two replacement stores, one slightly larger than the other, and car parking. The plans, by Robert Foden Estates and named The Bridge Shopping Centre, are still subject to planning permission.

The package is just one of several ventures currently being undertaken in Warrington by brothers Robert and Brian Foden.

Brian's company Briden Construction is looking to erect 45 apartments, three to six storeys high, at the former Cantilever Garden Centre.

Briden is also behind another housing bid on Wilderspool Causeway.

Elsewhere Robert has bought up ice cream merchants John Lewis and is looking to sell the rounds business.
