A Warrington shop owner says he has been forced to sleep in his store after it was broken into twice last week.

Don Wooden, owner of The Spares Shop on Bank Street, has complained that police have not been to advise him on store security or to inform him about the progress of the investigation.

Mr Wooden told the Guardian that forensic experts were the only people who came to his shop to take fingerprints from the crime scene.

He said that he had to spend Saturday and Sunday night at the store to protect his property until it was properly secured.

He said: "I know they have got limited resources but nobody has been here to give me any advice about shutters or anything. They are busy but that's not our problem is it?

"The local town bobby never came to see me, never spoke a word to me. It seems like the matter is closed now."

Mr Wooden added: "I am very disappointed, there are no police at all and there are no cameras down this end of town."

The Spares Shop, that sells household spares for things like washing machines and vacuum cleaners, was broken into last Sunday and last Friday morning.

According to Mr Wooden the shop was burgled at least three times when the previous owner, Merv Porter, was in charge.

The burglars kicked the door in and stole money from the till.

A spokesman for Cheshire Police said that Mr Wooden's complaints had been noted and are being looked into.
