GLAZEBURY was the unusual location for potentially dangerous levels of smog that broke Government health limits during the heat wave.
The small rural village was one of just four locations in the north west, including Speke, Wigan and Leigh, which recorded excess pollution levels during our summer scorcher.
Analysis from Friends of the Earth showed that Glazebury's high ozone readings rose above recommended health limits on five days from August 4 to 10, meaning bad news for asthma sufferers.
Just down the road, Newton-le-Willows was one of just 25 UK sites that broke health limits every day last week, with the town recording pollution levels that were more than double the health standard on a sultry Saturday.
Increased ozone levels meant that people might have suffered from coughing and choking, headaches, eye, nose and throat irritation and chest discomfort on deep breathing.
