FIVE people waiting for a bus had a miracle escape on Monday when a white Renault Megane appeared to lose control and swerved into the shelter outside a cycle shop on Duke Street.
Of the five casualties who were rushed to Whiston Hospital, two were just slightly hurt. Police believe that the 70-year-old driver of the car, who is still under observation in hospital, may have been taken ill at the wheel.
The passenger, a woman in her fifties was discharged after treatment. A 75-year-old man who had been at the bus-stop is also still under observation.
Duke Street was closed by police immediately after the accident with drivers having to take a detour.
