Hale Barns 2nd XI 114
OVER PEOVER 2nd XI 115-9
OVER Peover 2nd XI made hard work of reaching a modest target at Hale Barns on Saturday, eventually scrambling victory by one wicket, with the result in the balance until the very last ball.
Asked to bat under a blazing sun, Hale Barns made a confident start, with the top order of Wolstenholme (28) Carson (15) and Chohan (24) putting 81 on the board for the loss of 2 wickets.
However, the lower order wilted and the innings closed at 114 all out in the 44th over.
The wickets were shared, Ed Bloor taking 3-26 of 14 overs and Dan Tucker 2-29 also on 14, while John Mason took 3-35 and Leon White 1-14.
In reply, Peover's early batsman all chipped in without getting truly established.
Cliff Hall hit 19, Matthew Tucker 16, Tom Ashley 15, Paul Bateman 25 and Leon White 12.
At 81-4 after 28 overs Peover looked to be comfortable, but in a replica of the Hale Barns innings the lower order came unstuck.
When the last pair came together 10 runs were still required, with 5 overs remaining.
Somehow, new recruit Charlie Whitehurst (4no) and John Mason (5no) managed to scrape the runs reached 115-9 to give Peover their eleventh win of the season, and retain their position at the head of the league table.
On Saturday Over Peover 2nd XI entertain Pott Shrigley 2nd XI.
