TOFT won by a resounding six wickets at Booths Park on Saturday.

Warrington had won the toss and decided to take advantage of what appeared to be a good batting wicket and so it turned out.

They made a steady start against the bowling of Mudalige and Shiell but with the score at 16 Toft enjoyed an early success with a catch by Carolan in the covers off Shiell.

Mudalige got into the act with the score at 29, claiming the second wicket LBW.

Mudalige struck again at 39, Noble claiming a good catch in the covers for the third wicket.

As expected the very warm weather was taking its toll on the players and breaks for drinks were becoming a regular feature of the proceedings.

After 30 overs the score has advanced to 90 when the 4th wicket fell to a run out from a direct throw by Richard Hardstaff. The next two wickets fell very quickly, the second to a fine catch on the mid-wicket boundary by Mudalige to give Roy the first of his four wickets.

Two consecutive LBW decisions to Roy reduced the total to 163 for 8.

Roy claimed the 9th clean bowled and the innings ended when Noble took a good catch in the covers off Muirhead.

In the total of 171 for Warrington, N Thompson contributed 75 and J Hughes 36.

The wickets takers for Toft were Roy 4 for 28, Mudalige 2 for 30, Muirhead 2 for 42 and Shiells 1 for 21.

Toft's reply was opened by Muirhead and Simon Hardstaff and was making steady progress when Muirhead was bowled with the score at 24.

Richard Hardstaff took his place and survived an immediate appeal for LBW, the latest of many such appeals.

The score had progressed to 56 when Simon Hardstaff was adjudged LBW for 27.

Roy joined Hardstaff (R) and the spectators were treated to a find display of stroke play from both players whose objective appeared to be not only to score as many runs as possible, but also to obliterate the bowlers entirely.

The 100 came up after 23 overs and shortly afterwards Hardstaff completed a fine 50 with a crashing drive for 4 before falling to a good catch for a scintillating 68.

Carolan was out LBW almost immediately for 1, to be replaced by Blackburn and with 15 overs still to go Roy struck the ball for 4 to give Toft a resounding victory by 6 wickets.

The major scorers for Toft were Richard Hardstaff with 68, Manoj Roy 37 not out and Simon Hardstaff 27.

The backbone of the Toft innings was a partnership of 81 between Roy and Richard Hardstaff.

Next Saturday Toft entertain Cheadle Hulme at Booths Park 1pm start.
