BEING a wimpy girlie, I hold my hands up and say I do scare rather too easily and have lost count of the number of cushions I have bitten through while watching a scary or particularly gory film.

Makes sense then that I should choose Ghost Ship, a terrifying horror movie with blood and guts galore from the off, for my easy midweek viewing.

After the horrific opening, when almost the entire population of a 1962 cruise liner is wiped out by a freak (or is it?) accident, we fast-forward 40 years to Gabriel Byrne and his motley crew.

Captain Gabe and his glamorous assistant, Julianna Marguiles of ER fame, lead a routine salvage operation to recover the mystery ghost ship and make a few quid for themselves along the way.

But the floating mystery tour goes horribly wrong when they board the liner, to bring back the booty - hundreds of bars of gold bullion.

One by one the ship takes hold of the crew as they find themselves transported back in time to unravel the mystery of the ship's previous victims.

Produced by Joel Silver of the Matrix empire, it certainly hits the spot - well it scared the pants off me but I did guess the twist, so there!

Special features include a tour of the ship and a closer look at the gore with a prosthetics featurette.
