A COUPLE of pub regulars from Bewsey were challenged to quit the booze for a week in order to raise cash for charity.

Two girls who regularly frequent The Hatters pub, on Lovely Lane, shunned all alcoholic beverages while keeping up their usual visits to their local.

Emma Rathbone and Angie Gerraghty were challenged by friends who said that they could not keep off the beers for one week.

The girls accepted the challenge and decided that they could raise money for St Rocco's Hospice at the same time.

Landlady Gail McClory said: "They are our real regulars! It started off as a joke but then we decided that if they were going to do it they might as well raise some money for charity as well."

At the time the Guardian went to press, the girls had raised more than £500.
