A TOP Winwick chef is brushing up on his culinary skills and hoping he's got all the right ingredients to win a national cookery competition next week.
Owen Ashby, who works at The Swan on Golbourne Road, is one of more than 130 culinary wizards vying for the title of best pub chef in Britain.
Father-of-two Owen, who lives in Burtonwood with his wife Julie and sons Michael and Kieran, is taking part in the regional heat of the Chef and Brewer Chef of the Year competition in Manchester next Tuesday, August 19.
And the secret ingredient to the recipe for success will be the French twist that all competitors will have to include.
If Owen makes it through to the semi finals he will be a step nearer to the top prize of a study trip to Paris and a holiday to the Champagne region of France.
