KEN Dodd - the comedy king of Knotty Ash - returns to the Floral Pavilion Theatre, New Brighton, this Sunday (August 17) with his happiness show.
Born in Knotty Ash, Liverpool, in November, 1927, the award-winning comedian, actor and singer started his career as a ventriloquist. He then turned his talents to comedy and celebrates 60 years in the business this year. His last Floral Pavilion appearance was in front of a packed audience on April 30.
TV appearances are many and include roles in 'Dr Who', stage roles in Shakespeare productions and he scored hits with a range of songs, including: 'Happiness' and 'Have I Told You Lately That I Love You?'
Speaking ahead of Sunday's show, Ken says: "Audiences still go to a theatre wanting to be entertained. They want to have a good laugh and forget their cares and worries for a couple of hours (at the very least!).
"They come to my shows in search of happiness and that's what I try to give them with humour aimed at all the family. Age is no barrier - young, old, male, female. They all want a good old-fashioned laugh."
Sunday's show starts at 7.30pm. Tickets are available from the box office in Virginia Road, New Brighton, on 639-4360.
