MAYOR of St Helens and Newton councillor Leon McGuire is appealing for sponsors to support a charity golf competition.
The annual Golf Championship Tournament, held at Sherdley Park Golf Club on Saturday August 30, raises cash for the mayor's appeal fund.
The fund this year will benefit the Newton, St Helens and Haydock branches of mental health charity MENCAP.
Clr McGuire said: "We are once again deeply indebted to Sherdley Park Golf Club for organising this wonderful event. I hope that everyone who takes part will have a thoroughly enjoyable day and that the event will be a successful as ever."
The tournament has becomes a regular fixture in the sporting calendar attracting entries from across the northwest.
In the last 14 years, with the help of sponsors, almost £50,000 has been raised for good causes.
Each sponsor receives two free entries to the competition, advertising on the tee and around the clubhouse and a complimentary buffet meal for their competitors.
There is also a special prize for the best card recorded by a sponsor.
Anyone who is interested in sponsoring a hole at a cost of £125 should contact Alan Jenkins or Christine Cox on 01744 456 107.
