A LATCHFORD-born actor is looking forward to returning to the north west next month when the comedy that he is starring in arrives at The Lowry.

Martin Walsh is on stage in London's West End as Jim Heeler in Hobson's Choice and the play hits Manchester at the beginning of September.

The 31-year-old, whose family still live in Warrington, has appeared in City Central and Nice Guy Eddie as well as Emmerdale and Coronation Street.

He has also enjoyed roles in films like Beautiful Thing and Woodlanders.

Martin's return to the north west signals the start of the Young Vic's touring production of the famous Lancashire comedy and he is looking forward to seeing friends and family in the audience.

Martin said: "I know family and friends have booked tickets so it will be a special homecoming for me, particularly with such a famous Lancashire play.

"It will be different from in London where the play has been a great success but being back in the north west and so close to Warrington with a play, which has its roots in the area, will be an exciting week for me.

"Most people know the Hobson's Choice story - after all it has been a play, film and a ballet. But we have brought it right up to date and without losing anything."

Award-winning writer Tanika Gupta, has adapted Harold Brighouse 20th century play which follows widower and successful shoemaker Henry Hobson as he tries to bring up three determined daughters.

This production is a Salford meets Bollywood special as Hari Hobson becomes an Asian fabric designer.

Martin said: "It is a lot of fun and when you look seriously at the plot, it is the only way Brighouse's Lancashire-rooted comedy could ever be updated and remain believable and entertaining."

Hobson's Choice is on at The Lowry between September 9 and 13 and tickets are available by ringing 0870 787 5780.
