PETER Sellers fanatic Gregg Cawley was thrilled when producers asked him to lend them his Aston Martin 1961 car for a film about the legend.

The Monarch airline pilot, of Agecroft Road, has owned the car for many years.

During the 1960s Peter Sellers owned an identical DB4 Aston Martin.

Now Gregg's car is being used in the film called The Life and Death of Peter Sellers.

Caribbean

The film stars Oscar winning actor Geoffrey Rush (now appearing in the film Pirates of the Caribbean) as Sellers, Sophie Dahl as Ursula Andress, and Johnny Vegas as Harry Secombe.

Gregg said: "I am in a specialist group which provides vehicles for films and TV work.

"They contacted me as they knew I had the car they specifically wanted."

A transporter picked up Gregg's car in May and took it to London for filming.

He didn't get it back for another two months because most of the car scenes were outside and it was a particularly wet May.

Gregg added: "Peter Sellers had a car exactly like mine and he used it in some of the films he made.

"I'm really pleased they asked me. I'm a 50s and 60s buff and also a Peter Sellers fan.

"It's nice my car is now being used in a Peter Sellers film.

In September 2000 the Guardian featured Gregg's Aston Martin after he completed filming the title sequences for the BBC TV's Top Gear series of programmes.
