THE final preparations are well under way for the Northwich Festival a massive four-day extravaganza of entertainment which takes place over the August Bank Holiday weekend.

The festival, held at Moss Farm, is being organised by Northwich Rugby Club, Vale Royal Borough Council, Cheshire County Council and DAN.

They have worked hard to put together a timetable of activities and attractions that offers entertainment to suit all tastes.

The event begins with a sportmans dinner on the Friday night, which is a ticket only event featuring guest speaker Phil Bennett.

A 10-aside rugby tournament will take place on the Saturday from noon until 5pm, during which teams from across the north west will compete.

On Saturday night from 7.30pm, an Irish night, featuring live music performed by the famous Bogtrotters will take place in the festival marquee.

Tickets for this event cost £4 and can be purchased before the night at Moss Farm's reception or on the door on the night.

A farmers' produce market will take place between 10am and 3pm on Sunday. More than 20 local farmers will be setting up stall to offer a variety of home produced products.

This will be followed at 3pm by the preliminary rounds of the battle of the bands competition when talented music groups from the area will compete against one another.

The final of this event will take place at 6pm on Monday.

Monday is sure to provide a feast of entertainment and activities for all the family. Attractions include Cheshire strongman competition, Vale Royal biathlon, a craft fair, fun fair, circus workshops and a demonstration by world champion bodybuilder Paul Sutton.

There will be a marquee providing drinks and refreshments all day.
