WOLVES new boy Daryl Cardiss will have his first taste of Wilderspool passion on Saturday night when he makes his home debut for Warrington Wolves against their arch-rivals Widnes Vikings.

Hopefully the result will be different to the occasion on which Cardiss made his full debut, in the loss at London broncos at the weekend.

The 26-year-old full back or winger, who signed for Wolves from Halifax last week, said: "I have never been involved in a Warrington/Widnes 'derby' but the other lads have told me how big a game it always is.

"And of course, this one's a play-off final and I'm sure we'll put on a good display.

"It's going to be great because the fans get behind the team and I'm glad to be a part of it.

"I've come to Warrington because of the way they are going forward as a club. They're on the up as a team, the new stadium is coming next year and I already know players like Jon Clarke and Rob Smyth from my Wigan days, which has helped me to settle in.

"It wasn't to be a winning debut at London but it was good to be on the pitch, seeing what the rest of the lads are like and getting used to them.

"We coughed up a lot of ball in the London game and it made it very hard for ourselves in the hottest part of the day."

Cardiss had one remaining season left of his contract at The Shay but agreed a release with Halifax.

He said: "I had a few options but as soon as I spoke to Paul Cullen I made my mind up.

"I thought I needed to further my career and I thought Warrington is the best place to do that."
