Important bowls dates looming

WARRINGTON'S bowls calendar has some important dates ahead.

Charlie Bebbington, of King and Queen, will face Birmingham's Peter Davenport in the final 16 of the £6,000 Carlsberg Tetley Cup at Lower Hopton, Mirfield, on Sunday.

On the same day his King teammate John Clarke is among the final eight of the £2,500 Wharton Conservative Open in Winsford. The draw will be made on the green.

And another King hot shot, Larry Wells, will tackle the final 32 of the £4,400 Vernon Building Society competition at Alexandra Park, Edgley, Stockport, on Wednesday.

Eagle recruiting

EAGLE Rugby Union Club are looking to recruit some new players to strengthen their senior section plus their under 15s and u17s sides.

The club's senior sides train at Eagle Sports Club, Thornton Road, Great Sankey, from 7.30pm on Mondays.

Eagle's youth teams train at the same venue at 7pm on Mondays and Thursdays and at 10.30pm on Saturdays.

Cool hand Luke

BUDDING golf star Luke Burrows has been making a big impression on the county scene since being selected to represent Lancashire in May.

The 14-year-old Culcheth High school pupil has won every round he has played for Lancashire and he has also been excelling in individual competitions.

The current Joanna Morley Trophy holder has won the Leigh Golf Club Junior Open and the J. A. Carr Cup this year and he has also played in the England Under 16s Open Championships in Warwickshire.

Player appeal

BEECHFIELD under 14s soccer side are on the lookout for new players.

They play in the second division of the Warrington Solvay Junior Soccer League and train at Loushers Lane recreation ground at 6.30pm on Thursdays.

Team in need

MATTHIOLA Football Club need more players for the under 14s girls team as they prepare for their first season in the Liverpool League.

They are particularly in need of a goalkeeper and striker and for further information contact Charlene Harrison on 723803.

Pairs alterations

WARRINGTON Women's Afternoon Bowls League's Charity Pairs competition has a new date and venue.

The event has been changed to a one-day affair on September 8 at Orford Park and will start at 1pm.
