TWO Warrington Rowing Club old boys are set to make history for the town this week.

Richard Egington and Mike Dostal are the first rowers to have learnt their trade with the Warrington club and gone on to be selected for Great Britain in the sport's senior world championships, which takes place in Milan, Italy, from Saturday. Their selection means they are both in stepping stone crews for the Olympics in Athens, Greece, next year.

Former Lymm High School pupil Egington, aged 24, who lived in High Legh, will be in a coxed four boat in Italy while Dostal, aged 24, who lived in Walton, is the spare man for a lightweight eight boat.

Their former coach at Warrington Rowing Club, Richard Sinnott, said: "I coached them both for four years and think the world of them. From the early days, they had great potential."

The two men's selections were confirmed this week after final trials on a training camp in France.

Egington is now a member of the Leander Rowing Club and dedicates his full time to the sport. He has trained alongside the sport's stars Matthew Pinsent and James McCracken.

Dostal is with the Nottingham club but is in the process of joining Leander.
