Mr Eric Goulden, husband of the late Mrs Irene Goulden, died of pneumonia on July 2. He was 78.
Mr Goulden, of the Three Bridges Nursing Home and formerly of Lancing Avenue, was born in Howley and had lived in Orford for 54 years.
He was first employed at the Union Tannery, before enlisting in the Royal Navy Fleet Air Arm during the Second World War and then worked at Thames Board Mills until its closure.
Mr Goulden played crown green bowls for Winwick Social Club and won several trophies, he enjoyed playing dominoes, watching rugby and cricket on TV and spending time with his family. He retained his interest in the Navy, and followed the careers of two of his grandsons who are in the service.
He leaves two daughters, a son, five grandchildren and four great- grandchildren.
A service was held on July 7, at St Andrew's Church, followed by cremation at Walton Lea. The Rev Phillip Mears officiated.
Arrangements were made by Co-operative Funeral Services.
