WIDNES truck driver Jody Rust has taken a step nearer a VIP trip to Rio de Janeiro in Brazil by reaching the UK final of the Young European Truck Driver of the Year award.
He has already beaten off the challenge from 300 other truckers.
First he was selected as a qualifier by a panel of independent judges and then went on to demonstrate his driving skills and theoretical and road safety knowledge.
The UK final will be held at the Millbrook Proving Ground in Bedfordshire on August 30. Jody will be one of 12 finalists competing for the overall winner's title.
Should he win, he will be winging his way to Sweden to compete in the final.
Runners-up prizes will include a VIP day at a Formula One event, courtesy of Shell and the chance to drive a Formula One car, which is being provided by Michelin.
