A MAD Hatter's tea party was held at the medieval monastic site of Norton Priory to celebrate a new exhibition.

The magical story of Alice in Wonderland and its author Lewis Carroll opened at the historic museum and gardens this week.

Children were treated to fun-filled events to mark the event.

Action packed games, puzzles and activities will be held until the display closes on September 9.

Youngsters can design their own mad hatter's hat or try on lots of different character hats.

The exhibition focuses on Daresbury-born Lewis Carroll, exploring his link with Cheshire and the inspiration behind his stories and characters.

As well as writing this famous children's story, he was a brilliant mathematician and inventor.

Alice in Wonderland was first published in 1865 as short stories, invented by Carroll to entertain his young friend Alice Liddell and her brothers and sisters.

Original prints by Francis Broomfield, a local artist, displayed with the exhibition.

Norton Priory is open every day from 12 noon.
