EIGHT more redundancies have been announced at Intelicoat in Runcorn after the shock cancellation of an order.

The Manor Park paper-coating firm secured a contract less than a month ago with a large multi-national, but it was cancelled when the corporation found if already had adequate stock.

Intelicoat is fighting for new contracts over the next couple of months to try and secure the long-term future of the site.

The news follows 70 redundancies at Runcorn and the firm's sister site in Wrexham in May.

The new redundancies will be in the converting area, where coated and laminated materials are cut to size.

Intelicoat have asked for volunteers first, then will announce compulsory redundancies if they do not get the numbers required. The redundancies will take effect from mid-September.

The cancelled order coincided with the end of another major contract with the same firm and a market that has still not recovered from September 11.

Intelicoat's European managing director, Tom Dickie, said: "I have a lot of faith in the people at the Runcorn site, it is extremely efficient and we have very advanced technology.

"Things are not good but we are taking the steps that should put us in a good position to recover."
