AN EDWARDIAN procession and motor racing at Oulton Park in the 1970s are just some of the historical events that are to be brought to life next month.
The history of Winsford, Northwich and Middlewich can be viewed by young and old at a special, one-off screening of rare film footage.
Experts at the North West Film Archives are compiling some of the most intriguing and significant pieces of film relating to the rich and varied history of the area, to be screened as part of the North West Archives Festival.
The festival is a major, month-long celebration of the region's archival treasures in September.
Led by the North West Museums Libraries and Archives Council (NWMLAC) and the North West Regional Archive Council (NWRAC), the festival will be the first time archives services, libraries, museums and community groups have commemorated the region's history together.
The festival is designed to make local people more aware of the importance and value of archives, and attract new visitors.
Geoff Senior, collections assistant said: "This promises to be a fascinating insight into the history of the area and its people.
"We are putting together a varied programme, showing many different aspects of life.
"Moving pictures have the power to give the audience a real feel for what life was like in bygone eras.
"We're hoping that the screening will be of interest to both young and old."
Footage to be screened on September 24 at Winsford Library includes:
l Rare 1912 footage of Mayor's Sunday in Middlewich - a piece of film that superbly evokes life in the Edwardian period.
l 1930s footage of Winsford Carnival.
l Post-Second World War footage highlighting plans for the reconstruction of Northwich following salt mining subsidence.
l Motor racing at Oulton Park in 1970, featuring footage of Graham Hill.
l A 1966 film about open-pan salt production in Middlewich.
Tickets are available from Winsford Library, or the Cheshire Record Office in Chester.
Tickets are free but numbers are limited.
