A CREWE woman has been reunited with her long lost brother after an appeal in the Guardian.

Florence Jones, 67, of Badger Avenue, was put in touch with her brother Frederick Buckley, who she had not seen for some 60 years.

Fred, who is now retired, said: "I'm a couple of years older than Florence and I think we split up partly because of the war, but mainly as I went to live with my father in Ilkley. It is a long time ago so it is difficult to remember exactly what happened.

"I was in touch with friends in Sandbach for some time, who used to tell me how she was and so on, but when they passed away I lost touch altogether."

Eager to get in contact after all those years apart, Fred penned a hopeful letter to out readers' letters page, which was spotted by one of Florence's neighbours in the West End.

Having spoken to his sister for the first time in six decades on Monday morning, Fred added: "It's really difficult to know what to say after all these years and it was a little bit strained.

"Florence is a natural talker, but I'm a bit more hesitant.

"But we'll be talking again after the weekend and I'm sure there will be a lot of memories coming flooding back."

Florence said: "I have not seen him since I was a little girl. There were four of us, but the other two passed away and somehow we just lost touch.

"We seemed to get on very well on the phone, he was telling me about his three sons and said he was on holiday in his caravan, apparently he had just popped home to get some mail when he heard the message on his answer phone.

"It was really lovely to hear from him, but I think it will be very upsetting when we actually meet in person."
