A CREWE man kicked down the door of his sister's blazing house to rescue her and her three young children.

John Healey broke down the door of his sister Lyndsay's home in Nutfield Avenue and saved her and her children, Megan who is 18-months, Daniel three, and Amy eight, as they were trapped upstairs with the fire raging below them.

John, 26, who lives opposite in Mossford Avenue, was alerted to the danger by his step-son Michael and neighbour David Bithell on Sunday afternoon.

He said: "I ran over to the house and kicked the door in to get Lyndsay and her kids out but all the flames came back at me when I banged the door down.

"I started shouting because I didn't know where she was and then she came to the top of the stairs but was trapped by the fire.

"I ran up the stairs and grabbed her baby and the other kids and led her out - I couldn't believe how quickly the fire had spread."

Two fire engines from Crewe Fire Brigade arrived shortly afterwards and extinguished the blaze using breathing apparatus and two hose reel jets.

Single mum Lyndsay, aged 25, suffered minor burns in the incident and was taken to Leighton Hospital where she and her children were treated for smoke inhalation.

She is now temporarily living in Pear Tree Avenue after her house and contents were destroyed.

Firemen were unable to identify the start of the fire.

Modest John added: "It was a just a spur of the moment thing and it was only afterwards when it sunk in what I had done."
