I BELIEVE there is a City Growth Strategy for St Helens which will bring £30million to improve the town and provide facilities for the community. I am told the committee responsible for this allocation and share out of money are local businesses, but to my horror not the Saints - why?

Wigan council provided help and grants for Dave Whelan and Warrington have a new stadium, linked with a supermarket outside the town centre, but St Helens planners wouldn't allow this.

If Saints could obtain enough grant aid just to build a new stand (I'm not asking for a new stadium like Wigan, Warrington and Widnes) the town, the club and the whole community would benefit - or am I asking too much from this council.

Or, am I asking too much from the public of St Helens - perhaps they don't care about our club or the image of the town, after all what has St Helens got apart from the Rugby Club? Maybe they are right - Saints should be left to die, and what then? Maybe they'll have to move out of town - heaven forbid.

Come on the voice of St Helens - its time for the people to stand up and be counted and tell the Council that we want some of the allocation of grant funds to be spent to improve Knowsley Road - our home for over 100 years - thus preserving our heritage and a continuation of the club's huge contribution to the community.
