A HEAD teacher is putting her faith in a fresh challenge next month after six years at the helm of the borough's tiniest school.

Only 72 pupils were on the roll at Glazebury Primary when Joan O'Rourke took charge - now there's a healthy 105-strong register.

And along with the launch of a pre-school and recently-unveiled extensions to the Warrington schools, these are the achievements which Mrs O'Rourke will take with her when she joins Liverpool's Hope University College in September.

As well as allowing her to spend more time with her four-year-old son Tom, she will become a senior lecturer, training teachers for religious education.

Mrs O'Rourke, who also has a 16-year-old son, John, will miss the "friendly, happy community" at Glazebury.

Previously she taught at Birchwood CE Primary, where she met husband Brian. Leaving Glazebury, she was showered with gifts from staff, parents and pupils, including a silver watch and bouquets.
